All of our family and relationship issues can be traced to our "old self". Our identity apart from Jesus Christ is one of sin and selfishness. But we have been redeemed -  and will be fully redeemed on the day that Christ returns (vs. 30). Until the day of complete redemption we are a work in progress - but that is no excuse.
